Workshop: Mountain Pine Beetle and Watershed Hydrology Workshop: Preliminary Results of Research from BC, Alberta and Colorado
Ramada Inn, Kelowna, BC, July 10, 2007
The goal of the workshop was to present preliminary results of ongoing research projects on MPB effects on hydrological processes. The goal was to provide new information generated in BC, Alberta and Colorado, as solutions are required rapidly for this issue as the MPB infestation continues to move south. Rapid communication of relevant research results will allow forest managers and licencees to be proactive in planning salvage operations rather than reactive once stands have substantially deteriorated.
This information is also of great interest to non-forestry sectors such as municipal and local governments concerned with potential flooding and water supply issues, as well as fisheries managers, First Nations, and community-based conservation groups. The workshop will provide information to assist decision making as well as providing feedback to researchers that will help refine research plans and interpretation of results.
