Benefits
Building and maintaining an effective Web site is becoming an increasingly central activity as the medium continues to be the most cost-effective method of archiving and disseminating information. What most organizations fail to realize is that their Web site is a communication tool, a publication, and a virtual representation of the organization and its activities. Content is rarely static and the Web site should grow and evolve in unison with the organization.

These topical workshops are orientated to provide learners with the necessary management skills and understanding to plan, implement, develop, maintain and promote a successful Web site. They do not address in any detail the physical construction of Web sites (such as html coding, graphic design, tables, style sheets, etc.) but instead concentrate on management issues, strategies, and techniques which provide the backdrop for Web site development.

On completing these extension activities, learners will:

  • Appreciate the value and benefits of developing an effective Web site
  • Evaluate the costs and benefits of providing Web-based information
  • Learn, understand, and employ a number of different approaches to Web site construction and management
  • Identify critical components of successful Web site design
  • Increase their awareness of problems in Web site design and how to avoid them
  • Understand and use a wide range of techniques for the promotion of Web sites
  • Learn and understand a wide range of value-added Web communication tools
