From Species to Landscapes: Extending knowledge on dry forest and grassland species at risk
Penticton, BC kamloops, BC Williams Lake, BC
February 03-05, 2009 March 03, 2009 March 05, 2009

Saving species at risk means saving their habitats. This deceptively simple message poses difficult organizational challenges, since our traditional focus is on the species itself. We also face a communications challenge, in explaining the multi-species, habitat-based approach to a public and a media conditioned to focus on single species. In this series of interactive workshops we will explore multi-species, ecosystem-based frameworks designed to conserve species at risk and the habitats on which they depend. Workshops will also review extension and media techniques to broaden awareness of the fragile biodiversity of BC’s dry forests and grasslands. Workshop participants will gain a greater awareness of local issues, options for effective communication of key messages, and the provincial approach that coordinates recovery actions for grassland species at risk. Workshops are co-sponsored by FORREX, the Grassland Conservation Council of BC and the Ministry of Environment.
