Publishing high quality science based information

Project Abstract:
The suite of client focused publications produced by FORREX, with funding provided in part by the FIA Forest Science Program, is designed to meet the natural resource information needs of decision makers in policy, planning, management, research, and operations. Products emphasize implications of research results, supporting application of FIA Forest Science Program and other innovations by government, industry, First Nations, non government organizations, and the public.

The BC Journal of Ecosystems and Management (JEM), distributed three times per year, publishes peer reviewed articles extending scientific results, successful management applications, socio economic analyses, scholarly opinions, and operational and indigenous knowledge. In 2008 09, FORREX will implement Manuscript Central, a Web based tracking system designed to streamline the review and production process for JEM. LINK, published four times a year, is a newsletter designed to extend the results of research activities relevant to natural resource policy, planning, management, and economic development. LINK also publishes synthesis of information presented at workshops and conferences, which encourages the re use of such information. FORREX Series publications are peer reviewed reports discussing specific natural resource topics in depth; this format may also be used for Conference or Workshop proceedings. File Reports provide a means of documenting and storing information about projects, processes, or interim results. Where appropriate, FORREX will publish or co publish information through client preferred partner products, and will raise awareness of Program information products and services through articles in professional periodicals and popular magazines. Together, these complementary publications improve access to the body of scientific and experiential knowledge in or relevant to British Columbia.

The Publications team also provides peer assistance to the FORREX team and partners to maintain a high standard of quality in project work distributed in print or on line. Further team and client support is provided through extension event logistical co ordination, compilation of relevant news and events via the FORREX email list, and maintenance of accurate and up to date client records and distribution lists.
