Watershed Management Information Needs Assessment
Project Abstract: Needs assessments help to solve concerns over the management of watershed resources as related to sustainable forest management, as these reports provide a strategic focus for extension programming. In 2007/08, Watershed Management Information Needs Assessments were conducted for the southern and northern interior of BC (Redding et al. 2008, Redding and Nickurak 2008). In 2009/10 the Coastal Specialist will conduct a Coastal Watershed Management Needs Assessment, to update the 2003 assessment. This project will also provide peer assistance time for the proposed Science to Management Forums, the information from which will contribute to the needs assessments. Given the potential differences in regional driving factors for hydrological functioning of watersheds, it is critical to understand regional information and extension needs to deal with potential impacts of issues such as mountain pine beetle, wildfire, climate change and other factors that influence the functioning of watersheds across British Columbia.
